SOCIAL GATHERINGS
The Ellerslic Girls' Friendly Society gave the opening performance of its annual play in the Parish Hall last night before a large and appreciative audience. "The House of Let'e Pretend" is a Toy fantasy, written and produced by Ethel Sell mitt, and the story centres round an old student of psychology who change? the personalities of unhappy people into that of dolls. The music and dances arranged by Beryl Prentice are an attractive addition to the gay comedy of the piece which is excellently acted throughout by a cast of fifty girls. Mrs. Colgan led the orchestra and Mr. A. Prentice was stage manager.
An enjoyable bridge and 500 evening was held at the Kit/, tea rooiu<> on Tuesday evening for the Surrey Tennis Club, the conveners being Mesdames C. Engel, E. Butler and <ieo. Marett. The prizewinners for bridge were Mrs. ilcXainaia. Mrs. Woods, Mr. Waite and Mr. Wauller, and for 500 Mr*. Davis, Miss Davey, Mr. Howard and Mr. Lambert. Among those present were: Mesdamea C. Washer, S. deal, F. Mounee, Shore, een., D. Palmer, Shore, jun., A. Preston. V. Stone, McLeod, H. Lambert, C. McXaniara, Stretton, Yetton, Broadbent, Davies, W. Taylor, Wood, McPike, Misses D. Davies, K. Davies, K. .G. Butler. J. Hovte, J. Faulder, G. Keaffe, E. Davy.
A party given by Mrs. W. J. Ellett and her daughter Mary, at their home in Helensville, in honour of Miss Joan Phillipps (the white queen in the queen carnival). The chief event of the evening was the treasure hunt, which occupied nearly one hour and a half. The winners were Mr. L. Cairn's party— Miss M. Sercaton, Mise B. Phillipps and Mr. J. Dowling. Among those present: Mesdames W. J. Ellett, W. Brock, J.
