PENSION "CUTS."
RESTORATION URGED. Restoration of pension cuts was urged in a resolution ]>assed at a meeting of over 430 pensioners held in the Trades Hall yesterday afternoon. A request that * the Government should consider carefuly an increase to all pensioners was also contained in the resolution. Mr. E. J. Phelan presided. The meeting was addressed by Mr. W. E. Parry, M.P., and by resolution it expressed appreciation of his work in endeavouring to improve pensioners' conditions, and promised support for the Labour party at the general election. A telegram was read from Mr. M. .1. Savage Ktating that when Labour ruled a full standard of life for all would be the minimum. That would be accomplished by an immediate increase in pensions and ultimately by universal superannuation. Mr. Parry said that neither the Government nor any other party could give a guarantee of a stabilised pension system when the national income was dependent upon the prices received for our goods overseas. The labour party would determine the people's standard of living by their capacity to produce within their own country and to insulate themselves from the shocks of stupid policies from other parte of the world.
