MEETING OF COUNCIL
SHIPPING EXHIBITION
At the monthly meeting of the council of the Auckland Institute and Museum yesterday, presided over by Mr. A. T. Pycroft, a report was presented showing that 7890 persons attended during the last five weeks, making a total of 99,590 for the year to date. The director, Mr. Gilbert Archey, said that since the beginning of the year 63 school classes, comprising 2613 children, had visited the museum. Twenty-eight classes were already booked for visits next term. Viscount Bledisloe and Sir Clutha Mackenzie were elected life membere.
The director read correspondence intimating that Dr. A. V. Walkom, of Sydney, hon. general secretary of the Australian and New Zealand Association for the Advancement of Science, is expected to arrive in Auckland on Saturday, September 3, to assist in making arrangements for the conference of the association to be held in New Zealand in January, 1937.
It was decided to invite representatives of local bodies to attend the shipping exhibition on October 16 or 23. The Auckland Ship Lovers' Society is cooperating with the institute in order tp make the exhibition thoroughly representative.
