LATE MR. L. T. GRIFFIN.

MUSEUM COUNCIL'S TRIBUTE. Reference to the death of Mr. L. T. Griffin, assistant director of the Auckland War Memorial Museum and curator of the Auckland Zoo was made at yesterday's meeting of the Museum Council and high tributes to his work were paid by members. The president, Mr. A. T. Pycroft, said the museum had suffered a great loss. "I have known Mr. Griffin ever since he arrived in the Dominion," he paid. "I found him honourable and generous. ■, He was one from whom I always received great assistance at all times." The director, Mr. Gilbert Archey, said Mr. Griffin would be greatly missed. He had given help freely in a variety of subjects and the institute's loss was great. The council recorded its deep regret at Mr. Griffin's death and placed on record its high appreciation of his 27 years' faithful and efficient service and his valuable contributions to the study of the natural history of New Zealand. It I was also decided to express to Mrs. Griffin the council's deepest sympathy. There was a large and representative attendance at the funeral of Mr. Griffin yesterday. The Rev. P. Houghton of St. Mark's Church, Remuem, conducted a service at Mr. Griffin's late residence. Arney Crescent, and also officiated at the graveside at Purewa Cometery. ! The Auckland Institute and Museum was represented by the president, Mr. A. T. Pycroft, Professor H. W. Segar, Messrs. F. C. Mappin, J. C. Entrican, Dr. W. A. Fairelough, file director, Mr. Gilbert Archey, and members of the staff. The City Council was represented by Messrs. E. J. Phelan, chairman of the parks and reserves committee, the town clerk, Mr. J. S. Brigham, and £he superintendent of parks, Mr. T. S. Aldridge. The pallbearers were Messrs. Pycroft, Archey, T. A. Jagger, R. A. Falla, A. W. I B. Powell and V. F. Fisher.
