LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

INTER-ISLAND CONTEST.

CONTROL BOARD AFFAIRS. TEAM UNIFORM IMPROVEMENT. "The appearance of our senior teams is a credit to the game and to the clubs and if we can get the junior teams all to come up to that standard of uniforming for play it will be a further advantage," remarked the chairman of the Auckland Rugby League Control Board, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, last evening, when the report of the colours committee was presented. The chairman also intimated that the South Island team for Saturday's North v. Soutli match at Carlaw Park would arrive in Auckland on Thursday. , Mr. Wilkie said that, after full deliberation, it was suggested that the Otahuhu Club's jerseys be taken over and an alteration be made to Glenora jerseys. It was agreed that Ponsonby should retain their present colours. In connection with the clash of colours between City Rovers and Ellerslie, the former club had decided to differentiate by equipping all their teams with white shorts. The committee now thought that it should compile a register of colours, with records of the width of bands and other exact particulars. The recommendations were adopted and the colours committee was authorised to continue its work and to file patterns from jersey manufacturers in the register for reference. Samples of the new Auckland representative jerseys were examined and decision deferred. Richmond Rovers were congratulated on winning the championship and Mount Albert upon its success in annexing the Tliisitle Cup and as runncrs-up in the premiership.

The chairman said that, apart from the inter-Island attraction and trial curtainraisers at Carlaw Park on Saturday, the reserve grade final between Richmond and Marists on No. 2 ground would attract interest.

In reply to an inquiry from the Mount Albert Club asking for authority for the ruling that a player transferred to England was at liberty on return to play for any club he desired, the chairman said that every club should know that a player who went to England became a registered English player and consequently had freedom of action on his return.

Mr. Wilkie's appointment as manager of the Ponsonby third grade team to New Plymouth on Saturday was approved. Registration: John Tawhai (ex Auckland Grammar School), City, to City Rovers.

WHY BICKERTON WAS SHIFTED

A correspondent, " Leagueite." takes exception to comment in the Star on Monday that in the Richmond-Mount Albert match Bickerton was shifted to the wing three-quarter position owing to inability to " keep a close eye on Dunne. The correspondent points out that Bickerton's original place was centre threequarter, opposite List, and that his shirt to the wing was due _to a knock which temporarily disabled him.
