CHURCH FAREWELL.
Seldom is such high appreciation expressed to a young man who has served the community as was heard when Mr. IX S. Chalmers was farewelled at a large after-church gathering at the Onehunga Presbyterian Hall last night. Mr. Chalmers, who has been associated with almost every phase of the work of the Presbyterian Church since a boy, and has also given assistance to other churches and other institutions, has been transferred on short notice from the Onehunaa branch of the Bank of New Zealand to the Waipawa branch. Amongst his wide activities his most effective work has probably been done as a Bible class leader and' gymnastics instructor in the interests of boys and young men. The Rev. L. McMaster presided and the following were amongst the other speakers: Mr. B. W. Potter, for the young: men's Bible classes; the Rev. Thos. Halliday, Presbyterian social service superintendent; Mr. C. J. Byles, for the clioir; Master Jas. Clarkson, for the Scott Boys' Bible Class, One Tree Hill, and Tawhiri Boys' Club; Messrs. S. P. Crompton and X. V. Baker, for the Scott Hall branch of the church and the Tawhiri Social Progressive Club; and Mr. H. A. Stoupe, session clerk, for the church people generally. Several gifts were made to Mr. Chalmers, who, in reply, said he had been much touched by the numerous offers made to fill his place temporarily in various capacities until permanent*arrangements could be made. Among those present were the Rev. E. S. Harkness, representing the Methodist Church and Onehunga Ministers' Association, and Mr. A. H. Orwin, manager, and staff of the Bank of New Zealand.
