NAKED MANIAC SHOT.
NEW YORK, August 2
Burnett Ward, of Montroee (N.Y. State) found a naked maniac hacking his front door in the middle of the night, and was compelled to kill him. Tho madman was Maurice Fitzgerald, 34, an ex-convict, who had been in an asylum. Ward telephoned to the police, and when the maniac began to batter his way into the house with an axe, fired his shotgun to frighten -him. He fired again, fatally, as the State troopers arrived.
