Sydney.
SAVINGS OF £690 STOLEN.
(Received 10.30 a.m.)
SYDNEY, this day,
A daring theft of about £690 in a leather bag was perpetrated yesterday in one of the busiest byways in Darlinghurst. The money is said to have represented the savings of Mr. John Wilson, who had decided to buy two taxicabs in order to provide himself with employment. Mr. Wilson and Mr. Kenneth O'Connor, a motor car agent for a city firm, left a bank with the money and were walking to a motor car when a bandit accosted them. He threw pepper in the eyes of Mr. O'Connor, seized the bag from him and ran away. The thief sealed a high fence and dropped on to a vacant allotment and disappeared. Xumbers of people witnessed the affair. A man was subsequently arrested and charged with the theft.
