NEW ZEALAND SUCCESS

WIN FOR JACK HORNER,

MELBOURNE, August 7.

The New Zealand eolt Jack Horner won the second division of the Three-year-old Trial Handicap, six furlongs, at Geelong. By Captain Buneby from Cherry Pie, Jack Horner is owned by Mr. G. J. Barton, of Ihinedin, and is a member of the team brought over by the Wingatui trainer, b. G Ware. He is a half-brother to Chief Cook, Cherry Queen and Cherry King, all of whom have won in New Zealand. . Jack Horner was ridden by Wares apprentice, W. Jenkins, who also won a race on Callisto. Jenkins piloted Ste<«on to victory in the New Zealand Cup last November.

SYDNEY, August 7. The trainer Frank McGrath warne admirers of Peter Pan that all is not well with the champion. Lameness hae developed in the'shoulder, which is noticeable when the horse is going to the tracks, and also after finishing work. McGrath intends to ease Peter Pan for a week or two. Peter Pan, who won the Melbourne Cup in 1932, and again last year, is the favourite again this year in spite of the fact that his weight, 10.6, is greater than any yet carried to victory in the race.
