BREACHES OF AWARDS
WHANGAREI PROSECUTION. (By Tcli'graiph.—Own Correspondent.) WHANGAREI, Wednesday; For breaches of the typographical award, M. M. Baignet and Company, printers, had a claim of £10 made against the company by tho inspector of awards in the Whangarei MagistiateV Court this morning before Mr. G. X. Morris, S.M. The claim was that between April 1 and June 15, 1035, the company failed to pay C. J. Claridge, employed as a composito.-, the sum ot £4 12/3 per week as required by the award. Mr. Borryman, inspector of awards, said he had seen Baigent, who had explained that award rates were now being paid. Mr. Morris: You cannot flout the award, even in the cauee of charity. An award of £3 was made against Baigent. Claridge, for working for lese than award wages, had an award of £1 made against him. An award of £2 in each case was also made against the same firm in respect of further claims that during the period from .January 3, 1934, till March 30, 1935, Leo Tucker was employed as an apprentice and failed to register a contract of apprenticeship in tho manner prescribed by the Act, and also that, between February 11, 1935, and March 30, 1935, award wages were not paid. Witnesses' expenses amounting to 10/ •were allowed.
