HOLLYWOOD IN PERSON.

WARM WEATHER CLOTHES. (By MOLLIE MERRICK.) "Sometimes I think it's harder to t>e chic in summer time than any other season of the year," Joan Bennett told me as we discussed the clothes situation for thjs warm weather. And I know just what she means. If you are taking active part in sports, your costume will be definitely a frock adapted to whatever game you play. The beach costumes arc certainly for the seaside only, and formal evening clothes would naturally be used correctly.

But what do you wear if you start out for a Sunday that may begin with luncheon at the club, include a polo game or a cocktail party, and then end at an informal supper with a few friends? "If you're smart,'" says the little Bennett, "you'll wear what I call an afternoon frock with a sportswear tendency. And you'll find that you are correctly dressed for almost anything the day may bring." One of Joan's dresses of this sort is made of aquamarine sports crepe, trimmed in white waffle pique. The shirred waistline of the frock is different, as is the detail of the neckline, with its petal collar. White patent leather leaves form the huge buckle that holds the belt in place, and white pique hat and gloves are worn with the frock. "The shoes to this costume are most important." Joan Bennett adds. "To get away from the too sporty effect, I wear spectator sports pumps in white suede, with a high walking heel." Madge Evans, leaving for England to make a picture, there, calls herself Hollywood's unofficial ambassador of fashion. This because she is taking a complete wardrobe with her instead of planning on buying her frocks over there, as most people do. Miss Evans is famous for wearing strictly tailored suits for daytime wear. most of them in varying shades of grey. But in the evening her powns are decidedly on the elaborate side and very feminine. Most of her autumn frocks, she tells me, feature very full sleeves and elaborately gored skirts. And with all of her cvoninsr crowns Madge wears the lowheeled sandal that is so much in vogue now. Hollywood has gone in for capes in a big way! Capes, T may add, that range in size from shoulder to ankle length.

In her new picture Jonn Crawford wears an accordion-pleated cane of cloth of silver that hang 3 clear to the hem of her long evening pown. Tt ties simply at the neckline and billows after her as she walks.

Maureen O'Rullivan covers her frocks these days with a long military cape of black broadcloth, cut circular, and liiied with white satin. On either pidn of the tight-fitting collar the O'Rnllivan family crest is embroidered in pold.

Una Merkel's answer to th*» rage for eapee is one of mousseline ruffles that ties hiprh under her chin and ends just below her shoulders. It matches a printed mousselini> summer dancincr frock.

And Virginia Bruce enhances her blonde beauty with an elhow lentrth eape of old-fashioned gold taffeta, dotted in brown. It snorts a High fitted coMnr and fastens with a demure brown velvet bow.

Worn by Virginia Bruce, over a ruffled frock of brown tulle, this is rca'ly something to see.
