SOCIAL GATHERINGS.
A delightful bridge party was held in George Court's tea rooms on Wednesday afternoon. Those present were: Mesdames Bradshaw, Bright, Cooper, Dignan, Radford, Saugar, Engel, H. J. Cooper, Darroch, Mabbett, Shaw, sen., Shaw, jun., Craig, McPike, Palmer, Jordan, Mathcrson, Nealy, Marett, Butler, Sherlaw, Moncrieff, Stretton and Brunten.
Mr. and Mrs. Ernest McDuff, of Onehunga, who are shortly to reside in Devonport, entertained a very happy party of friends recently at Peter Pan Cabaret and later at EI Rey Club. Among those present were: ML.s<lair.es Chris Foote, W. Cleary. Alan Wilson, W. Mcllraith, Frank Stevens, E. L. Thwaitcs, \Y. Stitchbury, Anderson (Matata), E. Hirst, Bond, G. Reach, Stan Waters, Scannel, H. Aitcheson.
Mrs. J. A. Sherriff and Mrs. J. Findlay were joint hostesses at a delightful bridge afternoon held in George Court and Sons, Ltd.'s reception room this week. During the afternoon Mrs. Pool entertained the guests with an elocutionary item, which was very much enjoyed. Among those present were: Mesdames M. Pool,' Maughan, Cowie, Boyce, Millar, Moon, Snerriff, Pool, Mullins, Wilkie. Allen, Grey, Fogerty, Jones, Doughty, Doull-Weir, Brown. Findlay, Lugton, Grattan, McGill, Cox and Salmon.
The monthly meeting of the Otahuhu branch of the* Mothers , Union, held in the Holy Trinity Parish Hall, Otahuhu. on Thursday was very well attended. The vicar, the Kev. R. J. Stanton, conducted a short service in the Holy Trinity Church prior to the mothers and friends adjourning to the hall. Mrs. Bamford gave a very interesting talk on "the adolescent period of. youth and parents' responsibilities to their children." At the conclusion of the address afternoon tea was served by the Panimuc members of the Mothers' Union.
The St. Colnmba, Grey Lynn, branch of the Mothers' Union hold a social afternoon in St. Columba Hall, Surrey Crescent, on Wednesday afternoon, when they entertained members from St. Andrew's, Epsom. The hall was nicely decorated with arum lilies and Iceland poppies. Son<»s were rendered by Mrs. de Berg, and recitations by Miss Jean Douglas. Mrs. Sullivan played a piano solo and also acted as accompanist. A competition was won by Mrs. Chapman, St. Andrew's. Meedames Brewer and Hickson were the hostesses for the afternoon.
