YOUTH GRANTED PROBATION,
(From Our Own Correspondent.)
PUKEKOFE, Wednesday.
"Fortunately for you, the probation officer recommends a term of probation, otherwise I would have no alternative but to send you to gaol," stated Mr. p. H. Levien, S.M., in the Pnkekohe Court to-day, when Leonard Harris, aged 19 years, of Paerata, appeared before him charged with the unlawful conversion to his own use of a motor cycle valued at £&) at Paerata on July 17. Accused was also charged with tho theft of petrol valued at 5/0. He pleaded guilty on both charges. Constable A. McEachern said accused had stated that he had gone to Waihi and Katikati on the machine in an endeavour to find work. Hβ had then returned as far as Ramarama, where he ran out of petrol. He had intended to return the cycle to its owner. When asked why he did not ride his own racing bicycle, accused said there was no way to carry the gear which he had with him.
