Beef.—Our yarding of beef was mote than an average one. There was steady competition throughout with values very firm at late rates. Extra choice ox sold to 26/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 22/ to 25/j ordinary and plain, 18/ to 21/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 21/ to 25/; ordinary, 15/ to 20/. Extra heavy prime eteers ranged in price from £10 5/ to £11; heavy, £9 to £10 2/6; lighter, £8 to £8 17/6; light, £7 to £7 17/6; small and unfinished, £5 10/ to £6 17/6. Extra heavy prime young cows and heifers, £7 to £85/; heavy, £6 to £6 15/; lighter, £5 to £5 17/6; light, £3 to £4 15/; others, £1 15/ to £2 17/6.
Dalgety and Co., Ltd. Calves. —A very heavy yarding of calves was penned. Competition was not eo keen and values for all classes eased appreciably. Medium runners, £2 10/ to £3 17/; heavy vealers, £3 5/ to £3 10/; medium, £2 6/ to £2 13/; light, £1 19/ to £2 4/; smaller, 18/ to £1 8/; rough calves, 10/ to £1; bobby, 3/ to 8/.
Beef.— iVc yarded 142 head of beef, comprising 23 steers and 119 cows and heifers, as against 122 head last week. The quality of the offering was fully up to standard and, selling under a ready demand, late rates were again maintained. Our offering did not contain any extra heavy bullocks. Extra choice ox sold to 26/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 23/ to 25/; just killable, 19/ to 21/; prime young cow and heifer beef, 21/ to 25/; just killable, 15/ to 20/. Heavy prime steers ranged in price from £9 7/6 to £9 15/; lighter; £8 10/ to £9 5/; light, £7 5/ to £S 5/; small and unfinished, £5 15/ to £6 15/. Extoa heavy prime young cows and heifers, £7 5/ to £8 12/6; heavy. £6 to £7 2/6; lighter, £5 to £5 17/6; other killables,« £1 to £4 15/. Alfred Buckland and Sons, Ltd. Beef.—We yarded fat cattle to the number of 346 head, as against 211 head last week, comprising 167 steers and 1/9 cows and heifers. Our yarding of ox beet included several lines o£ choice cattle. Bidding throughout the sale was spirited, and values were firm at late rates. Cows and heifers were penned in larger numbers than last week, and they also remained firm at last week's prices. Extra choice ox sold to 26/ per 1001b; choice and prime, 22/ to 25/; secondary and plain, 19/ to 21/; prime young cow and heifer beet, 21/ to 23/; ordinary, 13/ to 18/. Extra heavy prime steers ranged in price from £11 to £12 5/; heavy, £9 10/ to £10 5/; lighter, £8 10/ to £9; light, £7 5/ to £8; small and unfinished, £4 to £6 10/; extra heavy prime young cows and heiiere, £6 10/ to £7 10/; heavy, £5 10/ to £6 5/; lighter, £4 10/ to £5; others, £2 10/ to £3 10/. Calves.—Calves were penned in extra large numbers. The demand slackened and values for all classes were considerably lower. Runners made £2 to £6 12/6 for a heavy prime Polled Angus steer. Fifteen prime runners and heavy vealers from Mr. J. S. Allen, Tirau, averaged £3 10/o. Heavy vealers. £3 6/ to. £3 10/: medium, £2 5/ to £2 12/; light. £1 19/ to £2 3/j smaller, £1 3/ to £1 11/; unfinished and bucket-fed, 12/ to £1 2/; bobby calves, 3/ to 8/.
