PRIOR PRIZE NOVEL.

The winner of the S. H. Prior memorial prize, 1935, for the best novel by an Australian writer is Mrs. L. C. Rodd, for her novel entitled "Tiburon." This deals with an Australian country town in the Lawson tradition. Mrs. Rodd is only 23 years old. She is the wife of a country schoolteacher.
Among five other stories highly commended was "The Papuan," by Mr. Monte H. Holcroft, a New Zealand journalist and author, a novel by whom was highly commended in 1928 in the "Bulletin" prize novel competition.
The trustees of the Prior prize received and considered 215 manuscripts in this year's competition.
