TASMAN STORMS.

SHIPPING BUFFETED.

Wanganella Nearly Day Late

At Sydney.

FLOODS IN VICTORIA. (United P.A.—Electric Telegraph—Copyright) (Received 10.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, this day. The Wanganella, from Wellington, arrived at 3.35 a.m. The vessel, which was nearly a day late owing to Tasman gales, anchored in Watson's Bay for medical inspection, as it was reported that there is a case of chicken-pox aboard.

After medical inspection, however, the vessel berthed at 8 a.m. The report that a case of chicken-pox was aboard was unfounded. A doctor went aboard to attend a child suffering from influenza.

After fighting westerly gales and huge, seas in Bass Strait, a long procession of ships passed through Port Phillip Heads yesterday. Most of the vessels were 24 hours late. Others were two days behind time.

On some ships cables were broken, deck fit.ing damaged, anchors missing, gangways, bulwarks and upper works smashed.

Although the Waitaki from Bluff encountered very bad weather, the large consignment of sheep aboard was landed in good condition. Three lambs were born at sea.

The flood position in Gippsland and Moe districts is easier.

AIR MAIL DELAYED.

It is understood that the New Zealand portion of the air mail for England missed tne air I7ner ivriich left for England before the Wanganella's arrival. In consequence the air mail from New Zealand will be delayed one week and will go by the next air liner to leave on the Australia-Singapore section of the route.
