RELIEF WORK.
SCHEME FOR AUCKLAND. "One local body seems to be doing one thing and another local body another. I tliink it would be better if all the relief work were under one control. However, that is by the way," said the Mayor, Mr. Ernest Davis at to-day'a meeting of the Auckland Metropolitan Relief Committee, when a letter was read from the Minister of Employment assuring the committee that the Unemployment Board was in accord with the principle of placing as many men as possible in full-time employment at standard rates.
Tho Mayor added that the City Council's unemployment committee had yesterday had a discussion with the Minister, and a certain scheme of works had been suggested. "If these works are approved I believe the position of the unemployed in the boroughs will be relieved considerably," he added.
