SWIMMING.

CLUB AT EASTERN SUBURBS.

The formation of a club called the Eastern Suburbs Amateur Swimming ami Life-saving Club, to cover the Orakei, Kohimarama, St. Helier's, Remuera and Howick districts, was approved by a wellattended meeting at St. Helier's on Thursday evening. Nearly 100 members were enrolled.

Among those present were Messrs. It. M. Sheffield, chairman of the Auckland Swimming Centre, A. uaranier, chairman ot the Auckland Surf Life-saving Association, and Mr J F. Langley, secretary of the Auckland Head Centre or me Itoyal Lile-saving Society, all of whom addressed the meetIng, giving advice on organisation and recommending earnest encouragement of swimming and life-saving among children. The club's first action, they suggested, should be to form children's instruction classes. Information on the equipment required for surf activities was given by Mr Gardiner, who said the Surf Association was eager to provide competent instructors.

The chairman, Mr. Tα Mnnro, who is also chairman of the Auckland Football Association, was elected president for the ensuing year. Committees elected to undertake preliminary organisations: — General, Messrs. H. E. Carde. G. W. Bell, A Twinanie, C. Hamilton, E. Carter, O. Smith, G. Peak and Meedames R. Glsby and J. Espie; surf, Messrs. D. Munro, W. ,T Hindman, L. S. Perkins, M. Negus, N. Gilbert, M. Bell, F. Stahton, I. McChesney and K. C. Reid. Mr. W. O. Stockley was appointed honorary secretary.
