In a return match with Surrey, at Kennington Oval, the county was dismissed by South Africa for 183. The visitors exceeded this for the opening partnership. Mitchell and Rowan, scoring centuries, were still unbeaten when stumps were drawn.
The South Africans played with dash and vigour, Mitchell and Rowan putting their side 8!) runs ahead in three hours. Fishlock, who saved Surrey from a somplete rout, batted for 110 minutes.
