"SCIENCE BURLESQUED."

Under the above heading your correspondent "H.T,K." takes Mr. J. V. Macky to task for claiming the inspiration of the Bible on the rounds of archaeological discoveries. Whether or no this can be done is a moot point; however, archaeology has ■certainly proved, in various connections, the historical accuracy of Scripture. Your correspondent "HIE" will probaibly remember how for many years Ur of the Chaldees could not be found and so critics concluded that no such city ever existed and therefore Abraham, who was supposed to have lived there, must have been a mythical character. For many years the Clitics so taught and wrote. Finally, Rawlinson unearthed Ur, where he found a remarkable library and so proved to the world that -Vbraham and his predecessors could 'both read and write. "H.T.R." says, /'The test ot inspiration would be a correct explanation ot important vital things which happened before mankind had arrived at a mental state to understand them." "And here," he says, tne Bible reflects the ignorance of the times m which the manuscripts were written." I would ask your correspondent to ponder deeply the following: Copernicus (A.D. 1475) first discovered that the earth rested on no solid foundation but hung in space. Job, written about 1000 8.C., say's in chapter 20, verse J: '■The Lord hangeth the earth upon nothing. Not before Galileo's time (A.D. 1630.) did men discover that the winds had regular and that rain clouds were only evaporated water. Eccles., chapter 1, verses 0 and 7 (900 8.C.): "The wind goeth toward the south and turneth aibout unto the north. It whirleth about continually and the wind retunieth again according to his circuits." "All the rivers run into the sea yet the sea is not full' (Why?). "Unto the place from whence the rivers come thither they return again." Limit of space prevents more examples, but the following is a list of scientists who believed the Bible to be inspired of Cod: Copernicus, Kepler, Isaac Newton, Cuvicr, Sir Win. and Sir John Horschel, Liebnitz, Lavoisier, Liebig, Secchi, Faraday, Sir Wm. Dawson, Hugh Miller, Dana, Geo. Fred. Wright ami others. Why do men like "H.T.R." try to disprove the Divine inspiration of the Scripture! Is it because the Bibla shows them their s&s/te of soul before God? Has the forgiveness of si::i through Christ no appeal to them? C.R.H.
