WHY NOT LOUD SPEAKERS? (To the Editor.) Could we not celebrate Royal birthdays and other occasions in some less expensive and ess noisy manner than the firing of salutes? This way may have been all right just alter BUnnowder was discovered to show what a foud noise we could make, or when we were 1?,,,.1. vounsrer I remember we used to ! i;lv by letting off a large cracker under their chairs; but we have grown out of that and when we arc taxed the way we to si ... v large guns to light the enemy a ' e ! ,to o sec our brand-new guns being used Sγworn out when the enemy comes, and we are taxed for more. Could we not pay our respects in a more gentlemanly way and more n keepin- with our 193.5 age? If we must make a noise, could we not do it on a loudspeaker or a drum?
