AUCKLAND CONTROL OF GAME MAORIS HERE AUGUST 17. CANTERBURY SHIELD CHALLENGE. Mr. A. St. Clair Belcher presided at last night's meeting of the Auckland Rugby Football Union, at which it was decided to accept the New Zealand Union's offer of a match with the Maori team. It will be played at Eden Park on August 17, ou the Maoris' return from Australia. They land here, and will play a final game at Wellington on August 21. • The Canterbury Union advised that its Ranfurly Shield team to play Auckland on August 10 would leave Chnstchureh on August 6, with Mr. V. L. Jensen as manager. Mr. E. V. Sutherland, manager of the Auckland team, presented a report on the representative match .played at laranaKi on Saturday.

The Thames and Whangarei Unions ■wrote asking for matches in their respective centres. The requests were referred to the match committee. The Technical Old Boys' Club notified its agreement to the proposal of the union to play some senior matches on outside grounds. The Eden Club asked for a special meetin"- of the committee to consider proposals with regard to the psaying of the senior grade competition.. The matter of setting up a sub-committee to deal with the competition was deferred for one week. Mr R. Laurie was appointed manager of the senior B grade representative team to travel to Helensville on Saturday. The Ponsonby Club was granted pcrmiseion to travel to Paeroa on Saturday. Transfers approved: —W. Kemp, Otahuhu to Ponsonby; 0. W. Rogers, Marist to Grafton, subject to the production of a clearance; W. K. Hinton, Manukau to North Shore. The reinstatement of R. McKee to the junior grade team of the Grafton Club was recommended. The New Zealand Union advised the reinstatements of C. A. Whitcombe, A. Ashby and G. Evans. . An invitation to attend Nelson s jubilee celebrations was received, and it was decided to ask Mr. J. L. Potter to act for the Auckland Union in this matter and also to send a message of congratulation and goodwill to the Nelson Union.
