RAILWAY BALL.

ORIGINAL SETTING. A marked spirit of friendliness and good fellowship characterised the second annual ball of the Auckland branch of the New Zealand Railway Officers' Institute held in the Peter Pan Cabaret last evening. From the beginning the 000 dancers who attended entered to the full into the gaiety of the function and an atmosphere oi enjoyment prevailed throughout. Around the orchestral dais was a replica of an express train drawn by a K engine of the latest model. At the t'cv.r corners of the dancing floor were placed threeposition signal lights which flashed red, orange and green, while '.lie tame cf.jour scheme was carried out in the streamers which formed a canopy over the dancers' heads and twined round the pillars in the centre of the floor. Stately vases of daffodils and yellow Iceland poppies made an attractive scene in the supperroom. During the evening an exhibition of the rumba was given by Miss Margaret O'Connor and Mr. W. Priestley. The guests were welcomed by Mr. J. E. Williams, chairman of the Auckland branch of the Railway Officers' Institute, and Mrs:. Williams, who wore a black georgette frock embroidered in cherry and pale green. Among the guests were: Mrs. C. H. Bray, in apricot satin and goorgette; Mrs. W. R.
