■ A QUIET OPENING. BUT BIDDING SUSTAINED. After a big volume of trading earlier in the week there was something of a lull this morning, and at the morning call only a quintet of sales was put through. ThereNvas, however, no weakening in the market tone, and bidding was wed ■sustained for a wide rqnge of securities. In the Government section every listed line was asked for, but the only offerings were a parcel of Rural bonds at £10(3 10/ and one of '38-'43's. at £105 10/. The banking section continued firm, and Commercials were quoted still higher from 17/5 to 17/0. In the insurance class, South British retained yesterday's lower level, with quotations from £4 17/ to £4 18/3. Consolidated Brick seemed a shade better with a sale at 11/6 and more wanted at that .figure, sellers moving up to 11/8. Iγ. Government stock the long-term '52-'ss's were again preferred, and a parcel was placed 2/6 higher, at £112 7/6, after which buyers stayed in at £112, but sellers dropped out.
