CUSTOMS RETURNS.

DECREASE IN JULY. SALES TAX REVENUE. Customs revenue collected at Auckland during Julv, amounting to £19G,391>, was less by £28,201 than the amount collected in'the same mouth of last year, but was more by £15,740 than the total for June, which was £150,G47. • The total for the first: seven months of this year was £1,444,959, which was less .by £13,554 than flic amount collected in the corresponding period of last year. From tyre and petrol duties £33,003 was collected last month, this being £10,379 less than the revenue from the same sources in July of last year. Foi the first seven months of this year there has been an increase, however, of £9738 in the receipts under this head, the total for this year being £327.078, as compared with £317,940 in 1934. Sales tax receipts showed an increase in both the monthly and seven-monthly periods. Last month £54,509 was collected, compared with £45.599 in July, 1934, an increase of £4910. For the seven months the collections were £379,4841, which was £35,437 greater than the £344,049 collected in the corresponding period last year. Excise on beer collected in July totalled £10,037, a decrease of £3222 on the £13,2.59 collected in July, 1934. For the seven months the collections were £74,947, compared with £81,509, a decrease of £0112.
