JACK BROWN (Grey Lynn).—lf you sent a page from your autograph book, I should imagine any star would be more than willing to sign and return it. Not having tried it myself, I cannot give you a more detailed assurance. MAE WEST (Tirau). —I think James Hall played the weak younger brother to Ben Lyon in "Hell's Angels." If yours deals "with New Zealand, look at it again carefully and impartially, asking yourself whether it will be of strong appeal to Americans and fllmgoers the world over. It is to such an audience that film makers must cater. In the meantime send vour scenario to Darryl F. Zanuck, Twentieth Century Pictures, care Fox Film Corporation, Hollywood, U.S.A. He is one of the up-and-coming producers of the film world to-day.

(Mount Albert). —It was true that Laurel and Hardy broke up through Laurel's inability to agree with the studio's proffered contract, but I believe he has now changed his mind and agreed to go ahead with the partnership. . Wheeler and Woolsey had a similar split a few years ago. I cannot tell you of L. and H.'s new film. A full-length film usually takes about six weeks for actual filming, with two months or more in previous preparation and research, while a "short" will take about a fortnight to film. Oliver Hardy was born in Georgia on January 18, 1892, and Stan Laurel first saw the light of day in Lancashire on June 16, 1895. Anne Grey (Aileen Ewing) -was born in 1907. SIYRXA LOY FAN (Marton). —I cannot tell you who played the wayside restaurant-keeper in "Forsaking All Others." No reply from King Street. Virginia Bruce was borne in Minneapolis, is sft 4in high, and lias blonde hair and blue eyes. She first played as the society girl in "Whv Bring That Up?" as the result of a wager, and later appeared in "The Miracle Man" and "Sky Brides." Donald Meek is a player concerning whom I can give you no information. Rosalind Russell. who has a prominent role in Jean Harlow's forthcoming film "Reckless," is "tall, slender, brunette, has exciting black eyes, and is determined to succeed. A wealthy lawyer's daughter, she at first wanted to make theology her career, but the urge for independence drove her on to the stage. Following two Broadway shows, she went to Hollywood and appeared in "Evelyn Prentice." "Forsaking All Others," "The Night Is Young," "The Casino Murder Case," "The Strange Conspiracy" and "West Point of the Air." Academy statuette winners since 1930 include Warner Baxter, Helen Hayes. Hobart Bosworth, now appearing with Will Rogers in "Steamboat Round the Bend," made the first motion picture in Los Angeles.

Eliesa Landi is giving a farewell cocktail party. She's off to France to make a picture. She's busy denying elopement rumours, and is planning to appear in Martin Flaven's play, "Tapestry in Grey," next winter on Broadway.

After nearly two years' absence from the screen Bebe Daniels, who has enjoyed one of the most successful careers in screen history, has returned from vaudeville to Hollywood to play a featured role in "Ball of Fire." Miss Daniels will be featured with Alice Faye and Jack Haley in this comedy. Miss Daniels' latest film, work was in "Registered Nurse."

The spin of a coin determined the fact that William Harrigan's favourite dish is corned beef and cabbage instead of .chop suey. Graduating from New York Military Academy with honours, the actor was offered a Chinese army job. Tlxo Chinese Government annually chooses the ranking cadets from six major American military academies, offering officers' posts with two years in which to study the language before taking up the work of training troops. Harrigan was not sure that he would like the job, so tossed a coin with Joseph Akoff, his classmate. The half-dollar turned tails up, and Akoff is now a Chinese officer. Harrigan turned to the stage and screen, and now is playing one of the principal roles in "Silk Hat Kid," which also features Lew Ayres, Mae Clarke and Paul Kelly.

Claire Dodd, the beautiful screen siren who moves about with such complete lack of self-consciousness, has a new recipe for poise. Between scenes of "Babbitt" Guy Kibbee, who is co-starred with Aline MacMahon, asked Miss Dodd how it is that she is never flustered and always mistress of herself." "Chess," she answered. "I have been a chess player for years and learned early in the game that one could not play chess except slowly, thoughtfully and without strain. I developed the habit of taking my time, refusing to be rushed and remaining calm." "Well," said Guy, "I'm going to have my daughter, Shirley, take up chess when she is old enough. It sounds like a swell idea." "All girls could profit by it," said Miss Dodd. "There are any number of situations in life when calm concentration gets much farther than excitement. Life's problems are the same to me as chess problems. I unhurriedly work them out. All straight thinking is done quietly." It might be mentioned that Claire Dodd won an important Hollywood chess tournament a year ago.
