PARIS, June 15. Bcttv, a (lop: wlio is the mascot of the 99th infantry regiment at Modano. was overwhelmed with honours and medals for brave and wise conduct to a degree that rarely is experienced by human heroines. As he lay helpless in the freezing snows of Galibier peak, she covered liiin with her warm, thickly furred body for three days and t\so nights until her comrades, a* searching party of skiing infantrymen of the 99th, managed to find him. The ceremony honouring Betty took place on May 13 in the barracks at Valloire, where a part of the regiment is quartered. The whole village took part in the fete. Children belonging to the League of Friends of Animal? gave Bettv a. "collar of honour," and the Paris'section of that society presented her with a silver medal.
But what is more important, a lieutenant and 11 men had come down from l'ort dc Telefiraphe, up the mountainside. specially to honour the regimental mascot. Lieutenant Unlard. who had participaed in the rescue of the mountain victim, read a telegram from General Dosse, military governor of Lyons, commending the backers of the ceremony and, of course, Betty.
With " her silver medal went a diploma, which reads: "Diploma of honour awarded to Betty of the 99tli infantry for her faithfulness, March 9 and 10". 1935." Another citation which went with the children's "honour collar" added to the above, "who saved the life of an injured man."
