(By Telegraph.—rress Association.)
DANNEVIRKE, Friday.
Calling at Dannevirke in the course of their tour of southern Hawke's Bay, the Governor-General and Lady Galway were accorded a civic reception at the Town Hall, which was used for the first time since the earthquake 10 months ago. The building was crowded and there yas a big overflow. An address of welcome on behalf of the borough and Dannevirke County was read by the Mayor, Mr. E. Gibbard, and Sir Alfred Ransom, acting-Prime Minister, and member for the district, supplemented the official welcome, referring to the changes in the district since the advent of the first Danish settlers some 70 years ago. Lady Ransom, the Mayoress, and members of the Borough' and County Councils and their wives were on the .platform. Lord Gal way spoke of the King's interest in the Dominion, and made a graceful reference to Denmark's close association with Britain through her connection with Britain's T?oyal Family. The Dannevirke High School cadets formed a guard of honour.
