ARCHBISHOP O'SHEA.
ROMAN CATHOLIC LEADER
CEREMONY IN WELLINGTON.
The Rt. "Rev. Dr. T. O'Shea. will be enthroned in Wellington on Thursday, August 15, as the new Roman Catholic Metropolitan of New Zealand and Archbishop of Wellington. The ceremony will he one of the most important in the history of the Roman Catholic Church in the Dominion, and, in addition to clergy from all parts of New Zealand, there will probably be present visitors from Australia.
The archdiocese was created in ISB7, when Archbishop Redwood was appointed to its head, so that the new Archbishop is only the second to hold the position, in which he will bo enthroned 011 the anniversary of his consecration.
Archbishop O'Shea was born in San Francisco, and came to New Zealand as a child. He was one of the first pupils of St. Patrick's College, Wellington, where he was a prominent footballer. He entered the seminary of the Society of Mary, Meanee, Ilawke's Bay, on leaving school, and after the completion of his studies was ordained a priest. Some years were then spent in parish work in Wellington. lie was appointed VicarGeneral, and in August, 1013, was consecrated Archbishop of Gorthyna, and was made coadjutor to Archbishop Redwood, with the right of succession.
