LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD.

HEAVY PROGRAMME AHEAD. MARISTS AND MOUNT ALBERT AGAIN. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board of Control last evening the chairman, Mr. G. Grey Campbell, said it was pleasing to report that the secretary, Mr. Ivan Culpuii, was making a recovery from his recent illness. The fixtures committee reported that the reversing of the two last series of matches in the second round, to permit i Richmond to have the bye to go to Wellington, would bring together on Saturday in pride of place Mount Albert and Marist, who previously drew, the early match being between Devonport and Ponsonby. In reply to a request by the Auckland Hockey Association for the general postponement of Rugby League fixtures on Saturday owing to the hockey Test match against India, the chairman said the board regretted that it could not accede because of the heavy programme ahead. As a matter of fact the Auckland League for the same reason had found it impossible to arrange representative matches so far this season. Perusing the fixture list for the balance of the ..season, the board considered the possibility of the Aucklar.d championship being terminated earlier than expected by a pjay-off between Richmond and Mount Albert. Mr. Campbell said that arrangements already were in train to facilitate the selection of teams to meet the Kangaroos in September. The council and Auckland League would co-operate in this direction and players would Do given every encouragement to be perfectly fit and trained as teams to ensure first-class performances in the international con-

tests. The inter-Island match at Carlaw Park on August , 17 would be preceded by an Auckland A and IS team curtainraiser, one of which teams might include a couple of players being tried out from Northland, so that as many players as possible would be seen by the selectors On the same date South Auckland would be playing Taranaki at New Plymouth. Prior to the inter-Island fixture it was proposed to fit in a date at Carlnw Park when two Auckland teams would meet South Auckland and Taranaki representative thirtcens. This double attraction would depend on Saturday's Auckland club results and the Taranaki League would be promptly advised. Mr. Campbell added that the Roopc Rooster competition probably would start on August 10 and - the League had yet to arrange the champion of champions fixture. Applications for senior matches at Papakura and Otahuhu were considered. The latter was supported by the club secretary, Mr. Ritchie. It was pointed out by the chairman that the position of the championship made it impossible to grant the requests at present and in any case preference would have to be given to Papakura, who had not had a senior visit in five years. Mr. Ritchie said he appreciated the difficulties explained, the chairman stating that the board hoped to see Otahuhu performing well in the Roope Rooster knock-out. It was decided to keep both applications under favourable consideration. The appeal of City Rovers on behalf of its reserve team against Ponsonby was dismissed on the grounds previously considered and on the extra plaint, following a report from the Roforros' Association. Registrations: C. Stephens, City (transferred from Akarana). and O. Donaldson, City (transferred from Newton), to Devonport United; G. Ellis, Poneonby (transferred from Mount Albert), and J. Pirihi, to Newton Rangers. Transfer: Geo. Sharp, Richmond Rovers fourth grade to Newton Rangers reserves.
