CHATHAM CUP SOCCER.
AUCKLAND FINAL TIE.
BLANDFORD PARK MATCH.
THISTLE AND PONSONBY MEET,
The Auckland final of the elimination rounds of the Chatham Cup competition will be played to-morrow afternoon on Blandford Park between Ppnsonby and Thistle, the latter being the present holders of the national club championship symbolised by the trophy. The teams have nret once this season in the first round of the senior championship when a draw was the result in a hurricane contest. Since that match Ponsonby have gone along on a winning way, while Thistle has lost three points, a defeat and a draw. At the outset of the season the Scots were in disappointing form, whereas to-day they have reached the high standard of team work and cohesion that won for them last season the supreme Soccer honour. Ponsonby, on the other hand, has shown the reverse in form, and of recent weeks has failed to reproduce the play that is expected from an unbeaten team. Their game last week against Mount Albert Grammar Old Boys reached the climax of feebleness, and it can be taken for granted that the special training and coaching that has been indulged in this week will produce a vast improvement in the showing of the team. Added to this is the traditional cup fighting propensities which have earned for them in days gone by the highest honours in Dominion Soccer. Everything, therefore, points to the meeting of the teams tomorrow producing the tensest club struggle this season, with the result likely to be in doubt till the final whistle. Extra time is allowed for in the event of a draw, and in consequence the kick-off will be at 2.30 p.m. In the senior championship, North Shore United will play Mount Albert Grammar Old Bovs at Devonport. and Metro-College will meet Y.M.C.A. at Western Springs.
