PEER'S DEATH.
LORD AMPTHILL PASSES
(Received 2 p.m.) LONDON, July 7. The death is announced of Oliver Arthur Villiers Russell, Baron Ampthill, former Governor of Madras, and Viceroy of India pro tem, aged GG years. His death coincides with a motor accident, resulting in serious injury to Guy Nickalls, with whom Lord Ampthill won the Silver Goblets at Henley in 1890-91. The heir to the barony n6w is the 14-year-old son of the Hon. John Hugo Russell, whom Lord Ampthill attempted to exclude from succession following Mr. Russell's unsuccessful divorce action.
