CALEDONIAN SOCIETY.
OTAHUHU BRANCH FORMED,
A much larger hall wae needed on Saturday evening to comfortably accommodate all the Scots who met in the Gas Company's room at Otahuhu for the purpose of forming a Caledonian Society. Mr. J. M. Deas, who presided, welcomed a large contingent from the Onehunga Caledonian Society and the Franklin Burns Club. Mr. R. McLeodpresident of the latter club, gave, a very interestiMg address, and Mr. J. H. Preston, chief of the Onehunga Society, gave sound advice on the formation and management of a society. When put to the vote a decision to form the Otahuhu Caledonian Society was carried unanimously. A delightful programme of Scottish eongs and Highland and national dancing was presented, including Mr. and Mrs. W. McFarlane (Auckland) songs and duet, Misses K. Reid (Auckland), Norma Thomas and Audrey Hipkins (Otahuhu), and Miss Leah Roseveare (Papatoetoe) elocutionary items. Pipers R. A. Archibald and J. Cooper provided pipe music for the Highland dancing and also for the many Scottish reels in the dance programme. Mesdames J. McDowell and McPherson played pianoforte extras. Supper, under the direction of the ladies' committee, comprising the Mayoress, Mrs. C. R, Petrie, Mesdames J. M. Deas, R. A. Archibald, C. Smith, and Misses M. and J. Gardiner, brought the evening to a successful conclusion.
