YOUNG WOMAN INJURED.

DRIVER IN POLTCE COURT. Allegations that lie was in a state of intoxication while in charge of a motor car, that he knocked a young woman down and that he collided with a stationary taxi were made against John Francis O'Grady, a boot finisher, aged 45, who appeared before Mr. W. R. McKean, S.M., in the Police Court this morning. It is alleged that Miss Ee'ma Lavonia Jones, aged 21, of 17, Gibraltar descent, Parnell, was struck by the car after she had stepped from a tram in Broadway, Newmarket, at 0.15 on Saturday evening. She was taken to the Auckland Hospital with a broken left leg. It is also alleged that after striking the girl, the ear travelled on for a short distance and collided with a stationary taxi. When accused appeared in court this morning, Mr. J. J. Sullivan asked for an adjournment for a fortnight for the reason that he is engaged in the Arbitration Court. "The TengCli of the remand is unusxial," remarked Sub-Inspector Fox, who went on to explain the circumstances of the accident. The young woman, he said, was still in hospital, but her condition was not serious. A remand for fourteen days was granted, bail of £50 being allowed on condition that accused's wife deposited her hank book with the police jn the meantime. .
