TROTTING MAN CONVICTED
» ■ NO CLASS i DISTINCTIONS. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, Thursday. A well-known trotting man, Freeman Holmes, jun., was convicted in the Magistrate's Court to-day on a charge of assaulting William John Morland on Juno 7. A further charge of using indecent language was dismissed. The dispute between the two men was about which should take priority in having horses shod at a blacksmith's shop. Counsel for Holmes made a plea that a conviction should not be entered, as it would debar Holmes from going on a racecourse, but the magistrate said: "Wo can't make these class distinctions."
