LEAGUE FOOTBALL.

AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD. AUSTRALIAN SECRETARY WELCOMED. DEVONPORT TO MEET RICHMOND. At the meeting of the Auckland Rugby League Board of Control last evening, the chairman, Mr. .G. Grey Campbell, extended a welcome to Mr. H. R. Miller, secretary of the New South Wales Rugby League and Australian Board of Control. Mr. Campbell said Mr. Miller, who was introduced to members individually, was in New Zealand in the interests of big football in both countries, and during hie stay was looking into all aspects of the game with a view to mutual benefits. The match between Richmond and Devonport was given pride of place on Saturday, with the early match to be contested by Newton Rangers and Mount Albert. City and Ponsonby will meet on No. 2 ground, provided the surface is playable. It was decided that unless their second round match had a bearing on the championship, Newton Rangers wjll meet Ponsonby at Glen Eden at an early date.

Arising out of a nuisance and danger at the Domain caused by bicycles being left in the dead-ball area, it was resolved to invite the co-operation of the Auckland Football Association to remove the obstructions.

When the question of club flags was discussed, the chairman made a suggestion that a Hag-pole be erected near the score board at Carlaw Park to. indicate by the flying of a pennant the team leading during the progress of the main, game. Mr. Campbell said the idea was one of a number given him by Mr. Miller. The suggestion was adopted. An application by New-ton Rangers for a replay of its match against Ponsonby in the first round —to be played at the end of the championship series if necessary— on the ground that the. referee altered a decision which enabled Ponsonby to win the match, was considered. It was decided that the referee's decision should stand. In respect to a protest by City Rovers regarding the drawn reserve grade match against Devonport at the Domain on Saturday, when the. referee declared the game off at 3 p.m., the second spell being thereby short-played, the matter was referred to the Referees' Association for report. ,

Mr. .1. M. Rutledge submitted a lengthy printed report dealing with the trip of Newton Rangers to Northland to play the Whangarei representative team on the occasion of the official opening of the Rugby League's new ground. Jubilee Park.

•The Onehunga Sports Federation thanked the board for a donation of £10 towards the development of its grounds scheme in the Manukau district.

A letter from City Rovers in connection with complaints regarding its altered colours, drew a reference from Mr. J. Rukutai that ho had attended a Ponsonby Club meeting, when his attention was drawn to* a similar complaint, the club having been asked to effect the change. It was pointed out that established senior clubs should not be inconvenienced by junior club troubles in this direction. Mr. D. Wilkie replied, and after some discussion the whole matter of club colours was referred to a special tsub-committec for report.

The Mount Albert Club was granted permission for its senior team to play at Taupiii on July 6. Mr. J. Johnson will manage the team. Registrations: H. W. Collins (City) and W. F. Ford (City) to City Roveiw; C. Pierce (Newton), to Devonport; and I'. Awliitu (City), to Newton. Transfer: Jaince Phillips, Marist reserves, to Ponsonby. THE DRAW FOR SATURDAY.
