POKENO BURGLARY.

FARMERS' STORE ENTERED

EXPLOSION UNSUCCESSFUL.

(By Telegraph.—-Own Correspondent.)

PUKEKOHE, this day,

Between 8.45 last night and seven o'clock this morning the Farmers' Trading Company's store at Pokeno was broken into and a large quantity of general goods stolen. The burglars bored holes around the lock in the back door, and, after removing it, opened the door. An attempt was made to open the safe by the use of explosives, but it was unsuccessful.

A cream carrier when passing this morning noticed that the door was open, and informed the manager. The latter .found goods from the shelves strewn over the floor. The police at Mercer and Auckland were informed, and detectives arc now investigating. It is not possible so far to ascertain the exact amount of the goods stolen, as the new manager took over the store only yesterday.
