RANGITOTO ISLAND.
DOMAIN BOARD'S POLICY. i "The Domain Board is not making anything out of its administration of Rangitoto Island. I might tell you the board is in debt to the Devon port Borough Council to the extent of £500," said Mr. H. F. W. Meikle, Mayor of Devonport, at last night's meeting of the Auckland Suburban Local Bodies' Association. ' Mr. Meikle said there was a suggestion from a certain quarter to close the island to shackowners, but the board would consider only the interests of the general community. Any revenue from shacks went back to the island, and he would be eorry to see the island closed for merely botanical interests. "We are controlling the island for the benefit of the community generally," he said, "and we do object to any possibility of the island being closed to the public. We have done nothing to commercialise the island. Botanists are already catered for by Little Barrier Island."
