HER ANSWER.

"NEVER HEARD OF GUY."

MAE WEST'S "MARRIAGE."

NEW YORK, May 0.

Mae West, the woman Who captivated the cinema fans of five continents with the phrase "Come up and see me sometime," has been engaged in a desperate attempt to discredit reports that, far from being a spinster, she was married in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, 24 years ago to a music hall artist named Frank Wallace. She has issued denial after denial from her headquarters in Hollywood.

Miss West says she has had to rebuff no fewer than eight gentlemen who aro convinced that they have matrimonial claims on her.

Relief workers indexing records have discovered a marriage certificate issued at Milwaukee on April 11, 1911, to Mae West and Frank Wallace, who are described as appearing in a local music hall song and dance act. The age of the bride is given as eighteen, her birthplace Brooklyn, her father, John West, born in New York, and her mother, Matilda Dilker West, born in France. All these details apply to Mae West of cinema fame.

Two Frank Wallaces have been found to whom the details apply. One appeared with Miss West in a Broadway play, "Diamond Lil," in 1928, before she began to appear in films. The producer says he died two years ago. Another candidate is now appearing in vaudeville on Broadway. He claimed in an interview that he was divorced from Mae in. 1910 or 1917, but he loves her still. Miss West replied tersely: "I never heard of the guy."
