One o£ the worst disasters in Central Germany occurred when a munition factory at Eeinsdorf blew up while working at full pressure. The death roll is unofficially estimated at 100. Twenty-two bodies have been recovered, while 373 workers were injured. Fire followed the first explosion at 3 p.m., causing others and levelling the cntiro works. Many neighbouring houses ■were demolished, and windows were shattered within a radius of miles. The lire burned for hours and prevented the extrication of bodies. All available doctors and nurses jwere rushed to the scene. Local hospitals are full to overflowing with the injured, and schools have been temporarily requisitioned. Storm Troopers and police have thrown a cordon round the district, preventing hundreds of sightseers, who were attracted from scores of miles away, approaching the fire.
The announcement of the disaster was banned in Berlin until 10 p.m., and all radio stations continued to broadcast music as if nothing had happened.
An official statement, describing the •works as a fireworks factory, says 10 todies have been recovered, and that the death roll is 50.
