BUSINESS ONLY FAIR. SOUTH BRITISH IMPROVE. At this morning's call on the Auckland Stock Exchange bidding was steady, and moderate business was recorded. In the insurance section South British made some recovery from the recent decline, and sold a shilling higher, at £4 16/6. Buyers remained in at £4 16/3, but sellers withdrew. New Zealand** were lather weak, quotations ranging from £3 7/ to £3 9/. Government stocks iverc steady, and a parcel of 1940 bonds sold at £103 2/6 were 2/6 higher than the last sale of stocks. There was a larger oJFcring than usual of local body scrip. In the banking section Commercials • were slightly firmer, with buyers at 15/3 and sellers 2d higher. New Zealands were quoted ex dividend, with buyers at £2 0/6 and no sellers. The Noon Call. At the noon call Commercial Banks had fresh business at 15/3. and more wanted. ■ Buyers for New Zealands moved up to £2 0/8, but sellers were still absent. Auckland Gas shares' were easier, with quotations from £ 1 6/ to £1 6/0. Bycroft's! were available at the last sale price.! namely, £2 12/.
