SOUTH CANTERBURY.
THE WINTER MEETING. FIELDS FOB TO-MORROW. THE FORM REVIEWED. (By Telegraph.—Special to "Star.") CHRISTCHURCH, this day. The South Canterbury Jockey Club will hold their winter meeting to-morrow. There was a big list of nominations, but a heavy, weeding out in some places came on acceptance night. Many withdrawals were due to the unfavourable weather interfering with training, this being the reason for most of the Riccarton defections. There remain, however, some good fields, and the racing should be interesting, though some horses from Riccarton will be backward after so much, idleness. The weather has been fine in South Canterbury, and the Washdyke course is in excellent order. The following horses may be fancied:— Pukaki Hurdles. —Sunward, Black Duke. Southburn Hack Handicap.—--Merry del Val. Gold Fox. Wai-iti Trot.—Bluff. Lady Hannah. Prince EdwaTd Handicap.—Nightform, Hunting Go. Pareora Steeplechase.—Willow Glen, Peterette. Temuka Hack Handicap.—Weatherley, Colossian. Winchester Trot.—Civic. Bluff. Seadown Handicap.—Capital, Cherry Queen. The acceptances are: — PUKAKI HURDLES of £100. One mile and a half.
