WAIMI MINE.

ORE VALUES AND RESERVES. GEOPHYSICAL SURVEY. The annual report of the Waihi Gold Mining Co., Ltd., states., that at Decembei 31 there were ore reserves in genera! account of 155,667 short wet tons, and in suspense account of " 171,034, a tota decrease of 546 tons. The reserve ore ir the Junction company's area was tone, an increase of 0568 tons. The average assay value was 33/ dry weight in genera account,, against 32/1 in the previous year; 34/4.97 in suspenee account, against 34/6; and 26/4.44 in Junction ground, against 27/5. The basis of all assay values is the same, on gold at 84/ a fine ounce/ and silver 2/. Dealing with the geophysical survey ol the Waihi district, the superintendent states: "The problem we are anxious tc solve is whether the projjylitised andesitc. which carries the reefs in this district; exists beyond the group of. hills (Martha, Union, Winner, etc.) already worked and under the later flows of anelesite and rhyolite which lap around them. The geophysical survey may be able to throw some light on this, but the question would have to be answered in the end by boreholes. We shall need to consider whether such boring should be recommended tc the directors." YIELDS OF COMPANIES. Mahakipawa (Marlborough).—Last week. 31015. Alexander Minos' return for May.— Battery department : 257 tons ore crushed for 1470z llidwt melted gold. Cyanide department: ISO tons sands treated for ■lOoz Odwt bullion. Concentrates roaster: Produced 020/. Sdwt bullion. Total estimated value, £104 D. In addition, O.O'J tons concentrates have been saved, valued at £208. The dewaterintf of the main tunnel of the Wetherstoncs Uoldmining Company, Limited (Central Otagoj, is almost completed. A southern report states it is expected that the work of extending the tunnel to strike the deep run of the ground disclosed by ' geophysical survey will be commenced this week..
