MARIST AND PONSONBY DRAW.

Although both Marist and Ponsonby lost opportunities in their game at the bliowgrotirids, it was the Old Boys who allowed the more chances to slip through their fingers. On the general run of the play the S-point draw was more in favour of Marist than their opponents. The game throughout was hard and clean. The outstanding feature of the tussle was the inunner in which the Old Boys, with the , wind behipd them, completely dominated the play for the greater part of the second half. For a long period they were risrht on top of the dark blues, and time and again it seemed certain that they would score. Sometimes it was the resolute Ponsonby defence that kept them out; sometimes the Old Boys' own mistakes proved their undoing. Their backs were given a feast of the ball, and, had they been in better form, or the defence less severe, they must have put up a big score. Both sides had their share of bad luck. On one occasion the referee awarded Marist a try, and then reversed his decision, according to his right, when he saw that the line umpire's flag was up. Early in the game the Ponsonby supporters saw .Tamieson slip and lose possession after he had carved a clear run through to the line and near the /finish saw F. Solomon touch down for a try that was not allowed. ' Only on rare occasions did Ponsonby set the ball from the set scrums, W. Hadley being in great form, while in the line-outs Marist were also more effective than their oppouents. The backs, however, were inconsistent, and-in the sedond hnlf there were times when it appeared that S. Hadley, making an extra link in the chain, appeared to slow up the attack. Elliot played a sound game at full-back. Among the Ponsonby forwards, a bustling game was played by Knight, while F. Solomon and W. Fraser often caught the eye. The backs saw comparatively little of the ball, but enough of it to show Jnmieson in elusive form and D. Solomon making every attempt to brighten. US .tke slay.
