AUCKLAND CONTROL BOARD.

INSURANCE AND CLUB MATTERS

At tho meeting of the control board of the Auckland Rugby League last evening, Mr. G. Grey Campbell presiding, it was decided, to stage the present runners-up in the championship, Mount Albert United and Marist Old Boys, in pride of place at Carlaw Park on Saturday, with Newton Bangers and City Rovers as the curtainraiser. Mount Albert and Marist reserves will play the early match to Ponsonby v. Pevonport on No. 2 area. The Ponsonby and Devonport reserves will meet at North Shore.

The special minute in .tribute to the late Mr. James Carlaw was approved, a copy to be sent to the relatives.

Mr. J. W. Probert, representing the clubs, gave a detail report on suggestions arising from his attendance at City Rovers Club meeting at tho week-end.

The chairman agreed with the suggestion that the system of deduction of medical fees from the amount of insur-' ance paid weekly to injured senior players was a hardship, and it was decided that in future players receive the full amount and the control board would meet the mcdical liability.

Mr. D. Wilkie reported on the establishment of the Green Lane Club with tlwe new junior grade teams, together two new school thirteens, in addition to the seven-a-side team, which led to the club's start.

The Otaliuhu Borough Council, tinder date June 1, gave assurance that in the allocation of grounds there to sport bodies, Rugby League would be given proper consideration.

Richmond Rovers were granted permission to travel to • Huntly on Saturday. Arrangements were reported to be in train for a special fixture in the Manukau district.

It was resolved to thank Mr. E. Bennett, of Takapnna, for the offer of a special school trophy, and another supporter for a trophy to be devoted to the seventh grade.

Major Arthur Purvis, military secretary to the Governor-General, Viscount Galway, returned thanks for an invitation to their Excellencies to attend Carlaw Park at an early date.

It was decided to make arrangements so that referees and players would know in advance what grounds they were to use at the Domain weekly.

HAWKE'S BAY LEAGUE. GROUND OFFICIALLY OPENED, At Napier on the King's Birthday there •was a large attendance at the official opening of League Park by the patron of the Hawke's Bay Rugby League, Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P., who congratulated the management and supporters on their enterprise. The speaker took the opportunity to deal with the history of football, and concluded by hoping the new ground at Napier would be a home of clean sport arid* good fellowship. Much interest was centred on the annual Town and Country match, won by the former by. 19—6. Country won the junior contest 3—o, and the Napier A and B teams battled to an exciting draw. Both new playing areas were used, and the gate takings were devoted to' the St. John Ambulance Association.
