POOR DEMAND.

FRUIT PRICES LOW.

GLUT OF PUMPKINS

The demand for fruit at to-day's sales was not keen. Tree tomatoes, however, met with an improved demand, as also did hothouse tomatoes, the supply of outdoors being practically finished. There is a fair demand for good cooking apples, but dessert apples are rather slow ot sale. The demand for hothouse grapes is also slow, while lemons are still very hard to quit. Quotations are: — Apples: Delicious, extra fancy, choice coloured, 0/0 to 7/0 per case; others, 4/0 to 5/0; Stunners, 5/ to 6/; Granny Smith, 0/ to 8/6; Dougherty, 4/; to 5/0; Ballarats. 0/ to 6/0. Pears: Coles and Nelis, export cases, 7/ to 8/6; bushels, 10/ to 11/. Passions: 16/ to 20/G per case. Persimmons: 2/6 to 3/. Oranges: island, 16/ to 19/; California!!, 33/ to 34/. Lemons: Cured, 6/ to 8/; Others, 3/ to 5/.- Mandarins: Fiji, 17/ to 19/. Grape fruit: New Zealand, large, 6/; small, 4/ to 5/; Californian, 28/ to 30/. Tomatoes: Hothouse, 4d to 10d per lb; outdoor, 2/0 to 6/ per case. Tree tomatoes: Xew Black, 4/6 to 0/; others, 2/6 to 5/6. Grapes: Hothouse, extra choice, 1/4 to 1/6 per lb; others, 7d to 1/2. Coconuts: 14/ per sack.

Vegetables. Very heavy supplies of vegetables were oil sale to-day. J.ne supply of cauliflower was much heavier than last week and lower prices were received. Cabbagu was also plentiful; but met with a ready sale at recent rates. Both from Tauranga and from local growers heavy supplies of kumaras arrived to-day and prices were lower than last week. Prices received for celery to-day were higher than those ruling last week, the demand being very good. All root vegetables were in lieavy supply >uul sold at very cheap rates. There is still a glut of pumpkins and the market is also over-supplied with rhubarb.

Quotations are: — Potatoes, 3/ to 6/ per bag; Southern, 7/6 to 8/6 per cwt; swedes, 1/6 to 2/6 per bag; onions, 5/ to 8/; kumaras, 2/ to 4/6; cabbages, 4/ to 7/0 per sack; on benches, 2/ to 4/3 per dozen; cauliflowers, 4/ to 7/6 per sack; on benches, 1/6 to 4/ per dozen; pumpkins, 2/ to 5/ per cwt; cucumbers, 4/ to 0/ per dozen; carrots, id to 7d; parsnips, 8d to }/; beet, 5d to 8d; turnips, Od to 8d; radish, 3d; spring onions, 2d to 3d per Jjundle; spinach, 6d to 1/ per dozen; leeks, Id to 3d; green peas, 4/ to 10/ per bag; French beans, 3/ to 9/; marrows, 1/6 to 3/6 per dozen; melons, 2d to 3d each; lettuce, 9d to 3/ per case; celery, cooking, 6d to 9d per bundle; dessert, 1/ to 2/3; rhubarb, 1/ to 2/0 per dozen.

Poultry. At to-day's auctions the supply of poultry was medium and the demand was fair. The prices paid remain practically unaltered. Selling rates were as follow:- 1 Cockerels: Heavy breeds, prime, 3/ to 5/6 cat-h; not prime, 1/9 up; light breeds, prime, 2/3 to 3/6; not prime, I/O up. Fat roosters: Heavy breeds, prime, 1/9 to 2/0; light breeds, 1/0 to 1/9. Fat hens: Heavy breeds, 1/9 to 3/; light breeds, 1/6 to 2/. Pullets: Heavy breeds, best, 3/6 to o/; smaller, 1/6 up; light breeds, best, 3/6 to 6/; smaller, l/ 6 up. Drakes: Young, prime, 1/9 to 2/9; smaller, 1/3 up; old, 1/6 to 2/. Ducks: Young, 2/0 to 3/6; old, 1/0 to 2/. Butter and Eggs. Hen eggs: First grade, 2/4% per dozen; B grade, 2/2%; V grade, l/OV_. Duck eggs: First grade, 2/1% per dozen; B grade, 1/11%: C grade, 1/9%. Farmers' butter, 6d to 8d per Ib.
