INDIANS V. CANTERBURY. SOUTHERNERS' GAME FIGHT. HOME GOAL-KEEPER BRILLIANT. (By Telegraph.—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, this day. Hockey of a standard never before seen in Christchurch delighted a crowd of 14,000 yesterday afternoon, when the Indian touring team met the Canterbury representatives. The Indians won by live goals to two, but the quality of their game was immeasurably superior to, the play of the home team. However, the Canterbury men by superior speed occasionally penetrated the Indians' well-organised defence. T ~ The smooth team work of the Indians, their uncanny stick-work and tactics ana the visitors' greater fitness carried the day against the young and eager Canterbury team It was not "until the last lp minutes that the Indians placed the issue beyond doubt. Dhian Chand ehowed himself deserving of his reputation as the best player in the world, and some of his work in combination with Rup Singh and Wells was of dazzling brilliance. , The first goal came from this combination shortly after the commencement of play The Canterbury team made a smart attack a few minutes later and was .very near scoring, but the splendid defence kept the Canterbury men out. Ktaind, i" the Canterbury goal, made many brilliant saves. India's second goal was scored by Rup Singh. Moir gonled for Canterbury In the second spell first Wells, for India, and then Cole, for Canterbury, scored the totals being: India 3, Canterbury 2. Chand added two more goals before time was called.
