WAIKATO PROPOSAL
ATTITUDE OF BOARD
Objection to an air service for which application had been made by the Waikato Aviation Company, Ltd., was raised at a sitting in Auckland this morning of. the Transport Co-ordination Board." There was no* appearanco of the applicant. Mr. S. J. Blackmore. Mr. Barrowclough snid that he had received instructions from Union Airways, Ltd., to oppose the application, but as the applicant was not present to state what his proposals were, the position was complicated. Sir Stephen Allen, chairman of the bonrd, said that the applicant had given evidence in Wellington and had sought a taxi service lioense on behalf of the Blackmore. Scott Company. The applicant had n working capital of £100 and owned a Desoutter cabin monoplane which had been enganred in commercial aviation since 1930. It had been stated that it was the onlv machine in the Waikato which could convey stretcher cases and it had been used considerably by the Waikato Hospital Board. "Mr. Bflrrowclough emphasised that the taxi service should not interfere with the trunk services which had been licensed. It would be unfair if it were allowed to entrench on the regular services. ■ ■ . Sir Stephen Allen replierl that the replication was for one-small machine. Fβ atrreH that it shonld not take pasfrom the trunk services. Mr L Aldertnn. a nipmber of the board motioned that it was _ the hoard's policy to make taxi fares higher than the trunk "erviee fares in order to nrevent interference. The board decided to reserve consideration of the application. •
