As the result of film becoming ignited at 9-30 last evening fire totally destroyed the public hall at Turua, three miles from Kopu. There was a large audience in the building at the time, but everybody got out without any panic. When endeavouring to subdue the flames in the operating box Mr. F. Olsen, operator, and- Mr. C. Williams were slightly burned. Many coats and articles of clothing which were left in the hall by members of the audience were destroyed. The building was erected nine years n«o by a local company at a cost of £2000, Mr. W. Chester beins the contractor. The building was insured with the South British Office. Mr. J. M. Mules, who rented a shop in* the building, lost a quantity of stock.
