SHEEPSKINS AND HIDES.
WELLINGTON MARKET FIRM. Prices of sheepskins, hides and tallow were very firm at Friday's sales, held by the Wellington brokers. Average catalogues were offered to a good attendance of operators. Dry sheepskins were again keenly competed for, and recorded an advance of V*d to %d per lb on last sale's prices. Salteds sold well up to late rates, with an occasional rise of 3d a skin. For hides, all sections of the trade were operating, and keen competition resulted, prices for the various grades being fully film, and in some cases %d higher than last sale's quotations. Heavy calf showed little change and light were about %d per lb dearer. . , , The tallow market was sound, good cask lots advancing by 1/6, per cwt.
